1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.
With these verses begin Revelation, the final chapter of the New Testament of the Bible. I started a blog on Revelation because I had always been very frightened of the events described in it and I wanted to work through my fear. During my time in active addiction I had many apocalyptic visions that fell in line with the things that the author, John of Patmos, describes happening in this chapter of the Bible, which is not something I expected to happen as I had long been away from the denomination of my youth and was for all intents and purposes a secular agnostic.
I read a bit about Revelation in wikipedia before I started this blog; it's important to note that as of now scholars are unsure of the authorship of this chapter; it may or may not be the same John who authored the books of John in the Bible, one of which is the Gospel of John. Scholars refer to the author as "John of Patmos", and place the date of authorship at some point in the last 20 years of the first century A.D.
