9 After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 10 They cried out in a loud voice, saying,
“Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
11 And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 singing,
“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and might
be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
The beautiful imagery in these verses doesn't fully explain the number 144,000 that was given in the prior verses, but here we find a description of a great multitude of people who were saved by Jesus, and live in heaven seemingly after their passing from Earth in continual awe and worship of God and Christ. (Here are a couple of articles that address different theories about the specific nature of the 144,000, from gotquestions.org and crossway.org. ) These verses give us reassurance that though we may not be included in the 144,000 from the 12 tribes of Israel, Christians are still included in the multitude who are saved by the Lamb of God that is seated on the throne.
I have other blogs that compile testimony about people's experiences of heaven and hell during 'near death' and 'out of body' experiences, and I have heard similar testimony testimony over and over from those who have had these experiences that is referenced in these verses, that being in the presence of God fills one with the desire to worship Him and revel in awe at His presence. This video in particular, of testimony from a young man named Josh Miles who had a vision of both heaven and hell while in a health crisis, demonstrates this state of worshipful awe at being in heaven with God.
