"9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints."
These verses follow our having been told that in the last days much of humanity will fall under the spell of the beast from the sea and worship it. The phrase in verse nine, "let anyone who has an ear let him hear," is common in the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels, and the two couplets that follow refer back to Jeremiah 15:2.
Ellicott's commentary at biblehub.com explains verse ten by saying, "This verse may read: If any one (is) for captivity, into captivity he goeth; if any one to be killed by the sword, he should by the sword be killed. If we read the verse thus, it is generally understood to be a caution to the suffering saints that there is nothing for them but to endure, just as Jeremiah told his countrymen that those who were for death must go out to meet it, and those who were for sword or captivity must face them (Jeremiah 15:2)."Jeremiah 15:2 reads: "And it shall be that when they say to you, 'Where should we go?' then you are to tell them, 'Those destined to death, for death. And those destined for the sword, to the sword. And those destined for famine, to famine. And those destined for captivity, to captivity."
The last line of verse 10 seems to warn Christians that our endurance will be sorely tested in these times because humanity will be consumed with worshiping the beast from the sea, and that we can expect that great calamity will come about, and some of us will even be taken captive or killed. Through it all we have to endure and stay loyal to Jesus and our faith in God and everything we stand for in order to make it through this period of trials while the beast is in power.
