4 It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins; these follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They have been redeemed from humankind as first fruits for God and the Lamb, 5 and in their mouth no lie was found; they are blameless.
These verses refer to the 144,000 mentioned in earlier verses of this chapter; it seems most scholars believe this is a number of Jews from the lost tribes of Israel who will be special to Christ because of their obedience to God and abstinence from sin.
This number refers to male virgins who are also people who have never told any lies. The 'first fruits' refers to the first born son; some scholars believe that this phrase originally referred to child sacrifice when the Hebrews were coming out of their early pagan practices, as referenced in the book of Exodus 22.
However it seems to have evolved into a Jewish ritual for the first born male, as referenced in this wikipedia page on "Pidyon haben", (the name of the tradition of redemption of the first born male.)
When I read some of the commentaries on BibleHub.com it seems clear that the writers are very resistant to the idea of these young males having been actual literal virgins; for whatever reason the writers on biblehub.com reframe this verse as saying the 144,000 didn't participate in "illicit" sex with women, or that they may have been married, but would have not committed adultery. It's clear the older, most likely married writers feel as left out of this number as many women who read this passage would feel.
