11 "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.
12 “To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:
These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. 13 I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives."
In chapter two, verse eleven, Jesus talks about the 'second death'. Gotquestions.org has an entry explaining what is meant by the term "second death. This term refers to final judgement occurring on Judgement day after physical death. Apparently this term is not mentioned anywhere else in the Hebrew Bible, but is instead mentioned in Targums, or orally recited versions of chapters of the Bible that predated the written ones. More can be found in the entry on 'second death' in Wikipedia: link
I was really intrigued about the mention of Satan in this verse and the reference to the 'throne of Satan'. From what I found online this refers to the altar to Zeus at one of the three famous temples in Pergamum during the time of this writing. This article at cbn.com is where I found the most information about the reference Jesus makes to Pergamum by describing it as "where Satan lives": link
The link above also explains the reference to Antipas, a faithful believer in Christ who was asked to give tribute to the God Zeus and refused and was martyred because of it. Apparently Antipas was driving out demons in Pergamum among the citizenry and the pagans began having dreams of demons telling them that Antipas must be subdued. Antipas refused to make any concessions or betray Christ in any way and thus was put to death.
