Revelation 2:21-25

21I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. 24 Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you, 25 except to hold on to what you have until I come.

In these verses Jesus is continuing to talk about the prophetess of a pagan church in Thyatira whom He refers to as Jezebel; scholars suggest Christ's use of the name 'Jezebel' in this case is a metaphor for a priestess of a local church. In these verses Jesus says that He's given this woman time to repent of her wrongs but that she is still cleaving to her sins and that she is leading the congregation astray into the sexual immorality of pagan religion, and the eating of meat sacrificed to idols. During this time in history the early churches of Christ were surrounded by pagan religions with these practices.

It's probable that Christ is saying in these verses that He will punish those that commit spiritual as well as physical adultery with paganism. He tells the church in this verse that he will strike all her children dead, and it's possible that while this might refer to actual mortal children, it also could refer to as well to churches that descended from pagan beliefs and rituals. In this case, this warning has proven true, as those pagan religions have, in fact, become dead religions.

Jesus' reference to the "so-called 'deep secrets' of Satan" it reminded me of the fabled 'mystery religions' that existed in ancient times. Jesus tells the members of the church at Thyatira that if they have resisted the teachings of these pagan churches and the temptations of sexual promiscuity, and the cloaking of their pagan rituals in mystery and secrecy that He will not punish them, but that they will keep their Salvation.
