Revelation 3: 9-10

I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

I did a search on the reference to the "synagogue of Satan" in verse nine, and it appears that there is no solid knowledge about which strain of Judaism Jesus is referring to in this letter addressed to the Christian members of the church at Philadelphia. Scholars infer that it might likely be a sect Christ regarded as he did the Pharisees, which clung to man-made religious law rather than the laws of God. Other articles I looked at suggested that the 'Synagogue of Satan' may have been a sect trying to impress circumcision on Christians and pressure them to adopt and follow Mosaic law.

Another thing I learned about Revelation 3:9  is that this verse in particular is sadly misconstrued to underwrite antisemitism, by twisting Jesus' words about a particular Jewish sect and misapplying this criticism to the entire religion of Judaism.   The wikipedia link  on the phrase 'Synagogue of Satan' points out that not only was Jesus Christ Jewish while on Earth but that the person most often thought to have written this chapter of the Bible was Jewish as well. Another article with a little bit more information on this mystery is at bibleref.com .

The most important part of the passage comes in verse, ten, though, where Christ tells the church, and all of us, to obey His commands so that we are spared the 'hour of trial' that the rest of the Earth's population will be subjected to. I hope everyone will accept Christ as Savior so that no one has to go through this awful event.

A Prayer for Salvation from Christ:

Lord Jesus, I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and for answering my prayer.
