7 When
they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the

The passage on these verses at biblehub as well as all the other writings I've read on this verse point out that it's important that the two messengers are only overtaken by the beast figure, (which most writers seem to agree represents Satan,) when their testimony is complete. The writer at the above link even goes so far as to say that when the two messengers are allowed to be overrun it's because God has no further need for them and their 'death can produce more fruit' than their continued existence.
I was fascinated by the reference to "Sodom and Egypt" and did quite a bit of reading to see how different people interpret it; some say it refers to Jerusalem and others to Rome. I've found when I delve deeply into study of the Bible and end up at the feet of scholars there is much more open debate and and sometimes disagreement about interpretation of texts than I was used to encountering in churches under the instruction of pastors.
