Revelation 11:3-6

And I will grant my two witnesses authority to prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days, wearing sackcloth.”

These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. And if anyone wants to harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes; anyone who wants to harm them must be killed in this manner. They have authority to shut the sky, so that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.

Some writers think that the two messengers referred to in these verses might be Elijah and Moses. In any event they are filled with the Holy Spirit and have incredible power to protect themselves against any harm. The writer at versebyversecommentary.com gives some interesting interpretations of this passage, here: link

The writer at readingacts.com gives a number of traditional interpretations of the two witnesses mentioned in these verses including one which posits that they may refer to both the Old and New Testament of the Bible: link. The writer at thebookofrevelationmadeclear.com  also comes to similar conclusions about the identity of the witnesses and who they may represent. Quite a bit of speculation has gone into deciphering their identity; the writer cgg.org notes that historically God has never brought back a prophet from a prior age to do work in the present but has always used people existing at the time.
