Revelation 21:1-8

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

“See, the home of God is among mortals.
He will dwell with them;
they will be his peoples,
and God himself will be with them;
he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
for the first things have passed away.”

And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, the murderers, the fornicators, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

These verses are both sobering and beautiful. I loved the thought expressed in verse three, that of God dwelling among the mortals. When I read that I got caught up in imagining being able to live at the feet of God and Christ, how wonderful it must be to be right there in their presence. The verses promise us a reality that is hard to conceive of, where the pain and trauma of daily mortal life do not exist, and there is no grief and loss and dying anywhere to be found. In this existence a new Heaven and a new Earth have been created, the verses even say that "the sea has passed away" leading one to believe that there may not be need for oceans in the new land God creates after the Tribulation.

The second passage gives us a sobering warning though, it makes clear that people who do not accept guidance from God and Christ via Salvation, and continue to practice shady ways of behaving, will not be allowed into heaven but will perish in the lake of fire. This is why accepting Jesus Christ is so important, because he becomes a guide and a leader for us once we do this; he begins to guide us through our life decisions, giving us spiritual input about how to conduct ourselves in a pure way. The world teaches us to rationalize and behave in a dog-eat-dog fashion, but with Salvation through Christ, Jesus does really come into our hearts and guide us. I hope that everyone will take this very important step of asking Christ into your heart so that He can become your Savior and guide you into His ways of living, so that we can all be in Heaven together one day.
