Revelation 11:15-18

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying,

“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord
    and of his Messiah,
and he will reign forever and ever.”

16 Then the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 singing,

“We give you thanks, Lord God Almighty,
    who are and who were,
for you have taken your great power
    and begun to reign.
18 The nations raged,
    but your wrath has come,
and the time for judging the dead,
for rewarding your servants, the prophets
and saints and all who fear your name,
    both small and great,
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

I originally started this blog because I have always been very fearful of the eschatology in Revelation. I was in my teens in the 80's during the 2nd cold war with Russia when the "nuclear clock" was seconds from midnight; we had tv specials like "The Day After", which spawned countless nightmares for me of waking up after a nuclear holocaust. It has really helped me to go through this chapter just a few verses at a time, so that my anxiety doesn't overwhelm me; this has also allowed me to meditate on the truly beautiful and astonishing imagery in this chapter, such as in Revelation 10:1-2.

These verses bring a bit of hope, as we are told that after the seventh Trumpet Jesus takes ruler-ship over the earth. There is debate among people who believe in a post-tribulation rapture as to whether the rapture happens at the seventh trumpet, or after it at the "final trumpet" in Corinthians as described by Paul. I really enjoyed reading this article by Thomas Ice describing the conflict between the two descriptions and also describing the disagreement about post vs. pre-tribulation rapture between himself and a friend.
